Each year 18 transects along Deer Creek (Chatfield Farms/ Hildebrand Ranch/ Jefferson County Open Space) are monitored, measuring understory percent cover, soil moisture, tree canopy cover, and plant species richness. Plant specimen vouchers are also made and deposited in the herbarium.

Water quality, stream conditions, and aquatic macroinvertebrates are also monitored on an annual basis.
